Market Dates Plus What's On

August 2010

August in the North East sees .....

Soft fruit – late strawberries galore, raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants

Seasonal veg include peas, beans, broccoli, new potatoes and tomatoes

Salads and herbs of all varieties

And the new season hill lamb will be ready towards the end of the month – also the first of this year’s heather honey.

The hens, ducks and geese are laying well - plenty of free range eggs to be had.

And of course - there are always the great Northumbrian cheeses, ham, bacon, sausages - not to mention conserves and chutneys.
